At a young age, we start learning to be independent and hear of the importance of being self-reliant. “If you want something done right, do it yourself,” they say.
I had subscribed to this myself, but more and more I’m learning it’s not always true. Yes, I love being thought of as the capable, reliable one. Yes, sometimes it will turn out better if I do it myself. But I have discovered that not admitting you need help is a weakness.
We are not meant to do it all by ourselves. Families, friends, and co-workers – each of these people have a place in our lives, and they are there for a purpose. They are there not only to accomplish their own goals but to contribute as a whole – as part of a community.
